There are so many options to consider going to see the annual 4th of July celebration. We were invited to Industry Kitchen in South Street Seaport set off from barges near Pier 17, just across in the East River to eat and see the fireworks up close and personal. It is even more special to see the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks live.

It was not too crowded to view the fireworks with a diverse and energetic crowd that enjoyed the extensive full open bar and scrumptious assortment of buffet tasting station. The ribs, miso salmon and corn on the cob were my favorites. The staff was really great and they also made the event even more enjoyable.

Industrial Kitchen is a one of various fine dining restaurants of the Merchants Hospitality Restaurants Group. CBS considers this place as one of 5 best restaurants with views of Manhattan. CBS also, considers Industry Kitchen having one of the five best Christmas Menu. Haute Living also likes Industry Kitchen especially one of 7 restaurants for celebrating Thanksgiving.

Cancer, your time is Up!!!

Non-profit organizations are continuing to find a cure for cancer by having intimate cocktail parties, receptions, food tastings and the most popular one charity dinners with silent and live auctions.

Finding a cure and helping the families live a better life while their loved ones are trying to battle this disease is what these non-profit organizations are trying to accomplish. I've attended a good number of charity events in New York City to find a cure for a disease, but I can say I am very impressed on the number of cancer charities raising money to find a cure and/or to give support to cancer families. In the last 1 1/2 weeks I've attended three different cancer charity events.

Cancer is a delicate subject to discuss, but I think most people I know have been affected in one way or another. I personally lost a colleague to ovarian cancer. She was a loving mother and wife and had many more years to be part of our lives but unfortunately cancer took her from us. Can we finally find a cure for all the different types of cancer???

They also had fireworks in Midtown Manhattan at 23rd street and 37th street on the barges in the East River.

The spectacular fireworks shows lasted 30 minutes and it was bigger than ever as being the 40th anniversary of the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks.

We had an opportunity to meet briefly with Abraham Merchant – CEO Merchants Hospitality, Inc. {Owner of Industry Kitchen} and this is what he said regarding his favorite holiday.

"4th of July is one of my favorite holidays because of the significance of what Independence day represents, celebrating a unified nation and the heroism of those who protect us from harm’s way. In celebration of this, I host an annual fun filled viewing party at Industry Kitchen, which brings the entire community together, families and friends, and visitors from around the world to enjoy the festivities with delicious food, cocktails and the most spectacular view of the fireworks in NYC,”  said Abraham Merchant – CEO Merchants Hospitality, Inc.

We would like to thank Mr. Merchant for the invitation to attend his special fireworks viewing party while enjoying the different buffet options. If you have not gone to Industry Kitchen yet, definitely go. You do not have to wait for a special occasion to attend as it has excellent food options for everyone.

Industry Kitchen is nestled along the East River next to the historic South Street Seaport, and just steps from the water’s edge.  The stunning 5,000 square-foot venue accommodates up to 300 guests with indoor and outdoor seating, allowing unobstructed views of the Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges and Brooklyn Skyline.

Academy Award–winning actress and producer Penélope Cruz talked with New York Times contributor Logan Hill about her latest film — the award–winning Spanish drama “Ma Ma,” from director Julio Medem  (Sex and Lucia, Chaotic Ana), which she also produced — as well as her many wide-ranging roles, including collaborations with such directors as Pedro Almodóvar (“Volver,” “Broken Embraces”), Woody Allen (“Vicky Christina Barcelona”), Cameron Crowe (“Vanilla Sky”) and Ridley Scott (“The Counselor”), and challenges and opportunities for women in film.

The film is about a woman named Magda (Cruz) who goes thru a tragedy, then gets diagnosed with breast cancer but life throws her a positive curve ball. She in addition, to this devastating outcome becomes pregnant and has to try to overcome the experience of dealing with breast cancer while going thru a pregnancy. In addition, she forms an unexpected bond with a soccer scout (Luis Tosar) whose wife has been gravely injured in an accident.

During the Q&A Penélope said she did a lot of research for months and met women whom had breast cancer in order to fully immerse herself in this role.

The Q&A took place at 7 p.m. on May 23 at Florence Gould Hall at 55 East 59th Street.

The New York Film Premiere is being held on Tuesday, May 24th at Landmark Sunshine to an invitation only crowd.

If you didn't have the chance to catch the live Q&A online or in person last night, you can watch it right here.
